In brief

As the conflict simmers, the propaganda speaks volumes, encapsulating Iran's stance and the ongoing turmoil in the region.

As tensions between Israel and Iran heighten, a series of murals in Palestine Square, Tehran, have become critical expressions of animosity toward Israel. The enormous images plastered on the side of a government building serve as a constant reminder of the escalating rhetoric, alternating messages designed to provoke and intimidate. Among the more notable threats is a January mural emblazoned with “Prepare your coffins,” juxtaposed with imagery of missiles being launched. More recent illustrations continue the trend of menacing declarations, including April's stark reminder for Israelis to “Die from this fear,” and an unsettling collection of hostages held in Gaza, declaring ominously, “None of the hostages will be released.” These murals are governed by the Center for Islamic Propaganda, an entity overseen by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. They also function as focal points for pro-government demonstrations, complete with supporters clad in checkered kaffiyehs and waving the flags of both Palestine and Hezbollah, Iran's Lebanese ally. Since 2021, a digital countdown clock has ticked ominously in the square, claiming to track the days until Israel's supposed demise—a statement emblematic of the palpable tensions in the region. As the crisis continues to evolve, the stories told through these murals paint a vivid picture of a society in conflict and its hunger for confrontation.
