Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed disappointment at US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for keeping their calendar filled with trips to Moscow while failing to make a similar journey to Kyiv. He described this pattern as 'disrespectful,' particularly as ceasefire negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine appear to be slowing down.

The two US officials, Witkoff and Kushner, have reportedly traveled to Moscow numerous times, with Witkoff meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin multiple times, while they have not made an official visit to Kyiv. 'It's disrespectful [for them] to come to Moscow and not Kyiv; it's just disrespectful,' Zelensky stated in an interview, highlighting the need for mutual respect in diplomatic relations.

Despite their ongoing engagements with Russian officials, Zelensky hinted at the logistical complexities involved in arranging such trips. He noted, 'I understand we have complex logistics... If they don't want to, we can meet in other countries,' thereby leaving the door open for potential engagements elsewhere.

The absence of official visits to Ukraine has arisen amidst busy schedules tied to the ongoing conflict in the region, further complicated by recent US military focus on the Middle East amidst rising tensions with Iran. Earlier in April, Zelensky had indicated that a visit by Witkoff and Kushner to Ukraine was anticipated but ultimately did not take place due to shifting geopolitical priorities.

Witkoff and Kushner are currently involved in discussions regarding ceasefire negotiations in Pakistan related to the Iranian situation. Zelensky acknowledged this redirection of US focus, asserting, 'But... in any case, for us it is important to continue cooperating with the Americans.'

Throughout this period, negotiations for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine have been underway, with various meetings aimed at establishing a solution to the warfare that has persisted for years. Nonetheless, complications remain, including Ukraine's demand for the return of children deported by Russia and disagreements regarding territorial sovereignty, which continue to hinder progress towards peace.

As the situation evolves, Zelensky remains resolute in maintaining dialogue with US officials, hoping to navigate the intricate landscape of international relations during these turbulent times.
