Police have released a man hours after they detained him in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of US news anchor Savannah Guthrie. After taking the man into custody at a traffic stop, police searched his home in Rio Rico, Arizona. The man, who identified himself only as Carlos, claimed ignorance of Nancy Guthrie, stating, I don't follow the news. Guthrie, aged 84, was last seen at her home more than a week ago, triggering a large-scale search and urgent appeals from her family.
Carlos expressed his frustration after release, asserting that he is not the suspect authorities are looking for. He reported being followed by police before his detention and described a lack of questioning during his captivity. Following the abduction of Nancy, the FBI has released new surveillance footage showing a masked individual near her home on the night of her disappearance, raising further concerns about her safety.
The investigation has garnered national attention, with the White House closely monitoring the situation. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have been actively appealing for their mother's return, warning that her health is critical due to the lack of necessary medication and exposing her to a dire situation. With ongoing tensions and escalating public interest, authorities are offering a substantial reward for any information leading to Nancy's whereabouts.
