FRANKFORT, KY – In a shocking turn of events, a parent of a Kentucky State University student stands accused of murder following a devastating shooting on the campus. The incident took place at a residence hall, tragically ending the life of 19-year-old De'Jon Fox from Indianapolis, and leaving another student in critical condition.

Local authorities confirmed that Jacob Lee Bard, 48, has been charged with murder and first-degree assault after the shooting on Tuesday. Reports state that Bard is a resident of Evansville, Indiana, located about 150 miles west of Frankfort.

While law enforcement officials indicated that the shooting appears to be isolated, they have yet to disclose further details surrounding the motives or prior incidents that led to the tragic event. Frankfort Assistant Police Chief Scott Tracy reiterated the ongoing nature of the investigation, stating, “It’s really too early in the investigation right now to really give any details that led up to it.”

Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots fired from Bard, who was apprehended at the scene by university police. Video footage of the incident is reportedly being analyzed as part of the investigation.

School officials are under pressure as this is the second shooting incident near the residence hall in just four months. In an earlier event in August, two individuals were shot from a vehicle near the same location, further raising concerns about campus safety.

Kentucky State University President Koffi C. Akakpo emphasized the institution's commitment to student safety, mentioning that additional police presence was arranged following the first shooting, and will reevaluate measures once this latest investigation is concluded.

As the community mourns the loss of a young life, questions remain surrounding safety protocols and parental involvement in campus affairs, as many students and families continue to seek answers.
