Two people have been killed in what police say was a 'rolling terror attack' in northern Israel.
Authorities reported that the attacker initially ran over a pedestrian in Beit Shean, and then continued his rampage by stabbing another victim near Ein Harod, approximately 8 miles away. The driver, a 37-year-old man, was shot and wounded by a civilian outside the city of Afula, police confirmed.
The deceased was a 68-year-old named Shimshon Mordechai, while a 16-year-old boy was injured in the initial ramming incident. The stabbing victim, identified as Aviv Maor, is 18 years old.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the assailant hailed from Qabatiya village in the northern West Bank. Following the attacks, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced preparations for operations in the Qabatiya area aimed at responding to such violence.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his deepest condolences to the victims' families and praised the civilian who neutralized the threat. This incident followed closely after a video emerged of an Israeli reservist who had been fired for ramming a Palestinian during a prayer.
The violence in the region continues to escalate, with more than a thousand Palestinians reported killed amidst rising attacks by Israeli settlers, particularly since the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.
