An incident ahead of a local football derby in the Peruvian capital Lima resulted in one fan dead and dozens injured.

Peruvian Health Minister Juan Carlos Velasco Guerrero confirmed the death and reported that 47 individuals were injured, with three in critical condition.

Hundreds had gathered outside Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in support of the home team, Alianza Lima, before their match against rivals Universitario de Deportes.

While initial reports pointed to a possible collapse of stadium structures, these claims have been disputed. Fire Chief Marcos Pajuelo assured the media that no walls had collapsed, stating, The structure of the southern stands appears to be in good condition.

Despite the incident, the Peruvian Professional Football League has confirmed that the scheduled match will proceed as planned.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the rally, emphasizing their commitment to safety at sporting events.
