Vagia Nestora, 72, suffered extensive burns and multiple organ failure at a hospital in Thessaloniki, where she was taken after an explosion outside her daughter Afroditi’s apartment building.

Three separate incendiary attacks fired by petrol bombs took place within minutes in the northern city in the early hours of Wednesday.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called the death an illustration of the "murderous and inhumane nature" of political violence and urged a united “banishment” of terrorism into the shadows.

He added that those who carried out the assaults under a guise of social struggle are criminals and will be treated as such.

Hospital officials said Vagia had burns covering about 80% of her body, and she died later despite intensive care. Afroditi suffered burns and smoke inhalation, and other residents including the former MP Savvas Anastasiadis and Zisis Ioakeimovits sustained injuries.

Police report that the devices were placed outside the apartment building, causing an explosion that destroyed cars and damaged motorcycles. The attacks were timed at 04:18, 04:23 and 04:35, and authorities suspect a single group traveling by motorcycle carrying out the rapid succession of bombings.
