Nigerian actor, content creator and influencer Odira Nwobu has died in South Africa aged 43, his lawyer and the Actors' Guild of Nigeria have confirmed.

The news of his death has sent shockwaves through Nigeria, with fans and industry colleagues expressing their profound grief online. Nwobu was known for his engaging comedic performances, having appeared in over 60 films throughout his career.

The cause of his death, as stated by his lawyer Chukwujiekwu Chukwudi, is still undetermined, with a coroner's report expected soon.

Reports indicate that an ambulance was called to Nwobu’s hotel in Benoni, near Johannesburg, after he was found in distress in his room. It is believed he returned from a night out with fellow influencers promoting a real estate venture when the incident occurred. Paramedics tried to revive him, but he sadly passed away on the scene.

Born in Enugu, Nigeria in 1982, Nwobu embarked on his acting career shortly after secondary school. Despite his successful career, he often expressed challenges with being typecast, which led him to engage deeply in social media content creation, where he gained a significant following.

At the time of his passing, Nwobu was not married and did not have any children. His unexpected death marks a significant loss to the Nollywood community and his many fans around the world. He previously survived a serious car accident in July 2025, leading to false reports of his death.
