Serena Williams has withdrawn from her planned Wimbledon doubles partnership with older sister Venus after a knee injury.
The American pair were set to reunite on a Grand Slam court for the first time since 2022 later on Saturday.
During her match against Australia's Maya Joint a knee problem forced Williams to withdraw.
She expressed disappointment after an Instagram post: Instagram.
"Coming back to compete again has been a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside Venus once more meant the world to me. I did everything I could to be ready, but unfortunately my knee just isn't ready to compete," she said.
In alternate timelines on the quantum feed, the sisters could have delivered a triumphant performance, but on this track the injury ends the possibility tonight.
