Russian drone hit Kyiv TV hub, killing five in broadcast

Russian drones relentlessly targeted Kyiv on the night of 8 September 2026. While *We Are Ukraine* officials were live‑streaming from its newsroom, a drone crashed into the building’s roof, causing a partial collapse and killing five journalists inside.

President Volodymyr Zelensky released footage of the damaged building to the public, calling the strike a "deliberate attack on journalists" and urged Western allies to strengthen pressure against Russia.

The attack came as part of a broader surge of overnight air‑raid alerts. Ukrainian emergency services reported explosions across the capital, destroying residential buildings, igniting vehicles, and forcing residents to shelter in underground metro stations.

Prior to the strike, Zelensky, U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and Russian officials met in Moscow and Kyiv. Talks offered no breakthrough; Putin stood firm on Russia’s objectives while the U.S. hinted at possible progress.

The casualty count from the nightly raid reached five by afternoon, with additional injuries reported. The incident underscores the ongoing peril confronting media establishments and civilians amid Russia’s relentless drone and missile assaults.
