Russian Air Strikes Resume on Kyiv, Two Deaths Confirmed

At least two people have been killed after Russia resumed air strikes on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv early on Tuesday.

The attack followed a three‑day cease‑fire on each side’s capital, brokered during US President Donald Trump’s top envoys’ visit to Moscow and Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he expects the war to last into winter after discussions with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son‑in‑law of the former president.

Air‑raid alerts prompted civilians to seek shelter as Russian forces launched drone strikes on Kyiv at dawn.

A series of explosions overnight struck residential buildings, including a five‑storey apartment block in the Solomianskyi district, and caused vehicles to catch fire in the Podilskyi district, killing two people and injuring ten others, the city’s state emergency service reported on Telegram.

During the attacks, residents traditionally took refuge in metro stations; one such station accommodated people who had fled from the blasts.

In Russia, the city of Saratov also suffered strikes from a Ukrainian drone attack, its regional governor Roman Busargin announced on Telegram.

The discussions with Trump’s envoys concluded without major breakthroughs, but Zelensky said officials from Ukraine, Europe and America will continue talks and called for a trilateral meeting with Russia and the US.

According to a BBC‑Verify analysis, Kyiv has seen more daily air‑raid alerts than at any time since the invasion began in 2022.
