Russian forces carried out an intensive night‑time strike targeting Ukraine’s energy network, with the capital city of Kyiv at the heart of the attack.
The assault affected more than 300 houses, cutting power to roughly 8,000 residents, and resulted in several deaths and injuries, including that of a child in the Kyiv region.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi described the offensive as the most massive attack on the energy grid since the end of last summer’s heating season, highlighting a continued pattern of nightly raids.
Officials said the target may have been the Trypilska power station—the main electricity supplier to Kyiv—though confirmation is pending.
The attack extended beyond power infrastructure, hitting residential buildings, social services, private businesses and railways in eleven regions, including Mykolaiv, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad and Rivne.
In the fallout, residents were urged to avoid using high‑power appliances between 10:00 and 16:00 local time as grid supply was curtailed.
