The brother of U.S. news presenter Savannah Guthrie has renewed his family's plea for proof that their mother is still alive after she disappeared last weekend.
As the first deadline from an alleged ransom letter passed, Camron Guthrie said in a video posted to Instagram that the family had not heard anything about their missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.
The 84-year-old is believed to have been abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona, in the middle of the night. Police launched a massive hunt, with officials offering a reward of $50,000 (£36,000) for information that leads to an arrest.
We have to know that you have our mum, Camron said in the latest video message. We want to talk to you. He added that the family had received no direct communication since the alleged abduction.
Camron continued, We need you to reach out, and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward. As the first supposed deadline for the Guthrie family to hand over money has passed, investigators are reviewing the ransom note, which suggested a second deadline for payment on Monday.
At a briefing, FBI Special Agent Heith Janke confirmed that no further information was shared about threats tied to the deadline, stressing that this remains an active investigation.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated on Thursday that they believe Nancy is still alive and that efforts are ongoing to locate her, encouraging the public to provide any possible leads to law enforcement.
Authorities have made clear they are working under the presumption that Nancy is still out there and need public assistance in finding her.
