Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk thanked police for "swift and decisive action" after a Polish national was detained on suspicion of planning an assassination of him and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak‑Kamysz.

The interior ministry said police had received credible information about a potential attack on the officials, prompting a special meeting of security services that Sunday. A spokesperson described the threat as "deadly serious" and said the suspect, Jacek Dobrzynski, was arrested in the Lower Silesia region.

The plot was uncovered when an email containing details of the planned attack was forwarded to the State Protection Service – the agency guarding government ministers – by a police officer. Officials say the likelihood that the threats could be carried out was high.

Dobrzynski is a Polish national; his arrest was announced by the Special Services Coordinator to the local media. The interior ministry’s spokeswoman Karolina Galecka thanked the police for taking an unprecedented lead in neutralising the threat.

Tusk, who has served as prime minister since 2023 and previously held the post from 2007 to 2014, is also a former president of the European Council. The incident comes as Poland faces growing scrutiny over security and political stability across Europe.
