In brief

Paris St‑Germain’s match against Lyon is delayed by 24 hours to Monday as police prepare for a new wave of demonstrations across the city. The postponement follows a massive protest earlier in the week, which saw over 550,000 participants and incidents of violence and looting. French authorities are also coordinating a major security operation for an NFL game at the Stade de France, further complicating the weekend’s events. While Toulouse’s home fixture has already been moved, PSG remains second in Ligue 1 and the rescheduled game coincides with the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, with key players among potential nominees.

The Ligue 1 fixture between Paris St‑Germain and Lyon, initially set for Sunday night, has been pushed to Monday 20:30 GMT in response to new protests across the capital.

French police have barred the match to secure the Parc des Princes, citing an extensive police operation for demonstrations slated for Saturday. Over 550,000 people joined last week’s protests against rising prices and social costs, with incidents of violence and looting reported in several cities.

The situation is further complicated by an NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France the same weekend, demanding a significant police presence in the surrounding boroughs.

Already the domestic calendar has been altered: Toulouse’s home match against Troyes moved from Saturday to Sunday after an intervention by authorities. PSG remain second in the league, while Lyon sit on top of the table on goal difference.

The rescheduled clash will also take place on the same day as the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, with France’s champions Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia among the hopeful nominees.
