According to Argentinian prosecutors, one individual who was with Payne at the time of the incident has been charged with abandonment leading to death, along with supplying and facilitating drugs. Additionally, a hotel staff member and a third unidentified individual have also been charged with drug-related offenses.

The singer, known for his rise to fame as part of the iconic boyband One Direction and his appearance on The X Factor, was only 31 years old at the time of his untimely demise. Reports indicate that investigations are ongoing at the CasaSur hotel, where Payne spent his final days. Toxicology tests revealed a mixture of substances, including alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant, in his system.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as "multiple trauma" and "internal and external hemorrhage" resulting from the fall. Authorities have conducted nine raids in Buenos Aires and are continuing to investigate Payne's broken laptop and other electronic devices seized during the inquiry.
