HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (FluxDaily) – Winter weather wreaked havoc in Michigan on Monday as over 100 vehicles collided on Interstate 196, including more than 30 semitrailer trucks, prompting Michigan State Police to close the interstate in both directions near Hudsonville.

The pileup occurred during a major winter storm, which is affecting a wide swath of the eastern and midwestern United States, with severe snowfall from the Great Lakes. Symptoms of the storm extended even to the Florida Panhandle, where unexpected snow made sports and travel difficult.

Authorities reported numerous injuries but thankfully no fatalities linked to the pileup. Stranded motorists are being assisted by local officials, with many being taken to Hudsonville High School to arrange transportation or call for help.

The cleanup is expected to take several hours as teams work diligently to clear wreckage and check on the wellbeing of those involved. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for other states facing extreme cold and winter conditions.
