A man was arrested after a violent stabbing at Edmonton’s Nanaksar Gurdwara disrupted the Sikh community, leaving two worshippers injured early Friday morning.
Police arrived around 5:00 local time, but the suspect’s motive remains unclear and no identity has been released.
The incident follows last week’s investigation of threatening calls made to Sikh temples in Calgary, heightening fears of a coordinated campaign of hate.
According to the World Sikh Organization, a copy of the Sikh scripture was also allegedly desecrated during the assault.
The Gurdwara remains closed to the public while authorities continue their enquiry, and local officials have condemned the attack as “utterly disgusting.”
