Israel Captures Senior Hamas Officer Amid Fatal Strikes in Gaza

Israeli defence minister Yoav Katz announced that a senior Hamas official was taken during a recent raid on Gaza City. The operation involved Israeli special forces and an Israel‑backed Palestinian militia, according to Katz.

During the same timeframe, Israeli air strikes killed at least two children and a woman, with a third child killed in a separate incident in central Gaza. Local medics confirmed that the casualties were civilians.

Katz, speaking at a meeting with residents of Netiv HaAsara, reiterated that Israeli forces continue activity along the northern Gaza border at all times. He said, “A senior Hamas terrorist was arrested – and this is our practice: we do not wait for threats, but pursue Hamas terrorists, thwart them and destroy their terror infrastructures.”

The Israeli military confirmed that the targeted strike was intended to neutralise threats to its troops, stating that none of its personnel were injured. Meanwhile, the Gaza war, which began with Hamas’s October 2023 attack on southern Israel that killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, has led to over 73,460 fatalities in Gaza, according to Hamas‑run health ministry figures considered reliable by the UN.
