Opponents of FIFA president Gianni Infantino are threatening “non‑cooperation” with the governing body unless he steps down, according to senior UEFA sources. The threat comes after a series of national associations, including Wales and England, withdrew their support for Infantino’s bid for a fourth term.


Infantino’s controversial plan to create a commercial subsidiary, Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE), would allow third parties to invest in FIFA’s principal competitions. The proposal, which could open an avenue for private investors to acquire stakes, has spurred calls for legal action, arbitration and regulatory complaints from UEFA.


UEFA’s letter warns of “immediate steps” to preserve documents related to the investment plan and demands acknowledgement within five business days. Should the council attempt an emergency meeting, a 19‑member motion would trigger a meeting within two weeks.


Other bodies have joined the opposition: Concacaf and the Asian Football Federation have shown solidarity with UEFA, while Africa, CONMEBOL and Oceania have yet to join the pressure. If Infantino refuses to resign, the international community may rally to block his leadership and seek a replacement.


The ongoing conflict marks a rift in world football governance, as clubs brace themselves for potential litigation and a leadership change next year.
