Gunshot Fired at Toronto US Consulate – Second Incursion this Year
Poles outside the U.S. consulate in Toronto reported hearing a single gunshot early Monday morning. A white car fled the scene, triggering a brief high‑speed pursuit that was later terminated for safety reasons. No injuries have been reported, but the incident has raised concerns about the safety of the consulate’s occupants.
This marks the second shooting at the consulate this year, following a March assault that police linked to a broader gun‑for‑hire network. The March attack was described by Toronto Police as a “national security incident” and has since led to raids and the tragic death of Constable Marc Pinizzotto.
Toronto Police, with the RCMP and international partners, are actively investigating the latest incident. Senior Inspector Jonathan Ko described it as “another troubling incident,” while Mayor Olivia Chow condemned it as “brazen.” The investigation has recovered one shell casing and noted damage to the building’s façade, though it is likely that those inside were not alerted by the gunfire due to strong security measures.
Authorities have not yet identified a specific motive, but links to previously arrested suspects in the March attack remain a focus. In June, a wave of gun attacks targeting Jewish-owned bakeries and other venues were investigated, with no definitive connection to the consulate shooting yet established. A suspect, Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al‑Saadi, was arrested in May for planning attacks against U.S. interests; the consulate team has yet to confirm any relation with the current investigation.
