Flash flood in Central Nepal

Central Nepal is reeling after flash floods slammed the Budhi Gandaki River valley, demolishing nearly two dozen houses and four bridges.

An upstream landslide is blamed for the sudden surge, sweeping even a hydropower project camp into the water.

The army rescued 49 people, while five remain missing, according to district officials.

The tragedy comes a short time after last year’s catastrophic floods that devastated border towns with Tibet, underscoring the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather.
