Families still search for bodies a month after Venezuela earthquakes
Seven days after the twin 7.0‑strength earthquakes that struck the coast of La Guaira on June 24, residents are still scouring the crushed remains of apartment blocks for any sign of survivors.
The devastation tore apart entire neighborhoods, leaving more than 5,300 people confirmed dead and an uncertain number of missing, some estimating the figure could reach 50,000.
BBC Latin America correspondent Will Grant visited the area shortly after the tremors and returned a month later to witness the persistence of families pressing against collapsed walls in the hope of locating loved ones.
In the wake of such mass destruction, the search for survivors remains a bleak and ongoing struggle.
