WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic lawmakers featured in a viral social media video urging U.S. troops to disobey 'illegal orders' have confirmed that the FBI is reaching out to arrange interviews, signaling a potential investigation into their actions.
This situation unfolds as the Pentagon also pursues an investigation regarding Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, who has been scrutinized for alleged violations of military law. These moves come on the heels of former President Donald Trump's incendiary claims on social media, where he labeled the lawmakers’ actions as sedition, a charge he stated was 'punishable by DEATH.'
A collective group of four Democratic House members responded strongly, asserting, 'President Trump is using the FBI as a tool to intimidate and harass Members of Congress.' They indicated that this past Tuesday, the FBI had contacted both House and Senate Sergeants at Arms to commence interviews related to the matter.
