Eurostar and Le Shuttle services between the UK and France have resumed through the Channel Tunnel after major travel disruption on Tuesday.
Thousands of passengers faced hours of delays after Eurostar cancelled most of its London to Europe services due to an overhead power supply problem and a failed Le Shuttle train that blocked all routes.
Repair work was conducted overnight, and rail services through the tunnel in both directions resumed on Wednesday morning. However, Eurostar urged passengers to check before traveling as there may still be knock-on delays and last-minute cancellations.
Most of Eurostar's Wednesday morning services in and out of London St Pancras have departed, with only three services cancelled - one towards Paris Gare du Nord, another to Brussels Midi, and the last bound for Amsterdam Centraal.
The firm apologized for the inconvenience and noted that one additional London to Paris service would run on Wednesday, offering 'enhanced compensation' including a full refund and extra vouchers for affected passengers.
Le Shuttle services from Folkestone have returned to normal after delays early Wednesday, though there remained delays of approximately one hour at Calais.
The Channel Tunnel, operated by Getlink, accommodates both Eurostar and Le Shuttle services but faced challenges on Tuesday that led to significant travel disruption, photos of crowded stations circulated on social media.
Some passengers had to spend the night aboard stranded trains, while others sought alternative routes to reach their destinations in time for New Year's Eve celebrations.
