At least 104 Palestinians were killed in a wave of Israeli strikes in Gaza on Tuesday night, the territory's Hamas-run health ministry reports.
The Israeli military stated it struck dozens of terror targets and terrorists in response to violations by Hamas of the US-brokered ceasefire deal.
Israel's defence minister accused Hamas of an attack in Gaza that killed an Israeli soldier, claiming the group violated terms on returning deceased hostages' bodies. In contrast, Hamas has denied any connection to the attack, suggesting Israel is attempting to undermine the ceasefire agreement.
US President Donald Trump expressed that nothing would jeopardize the ceasefire, though he affirmed Israel's right to retaliate against attacks on its soldiers.
The Israeli strikes were reported to have impacted homes, schools, and residential blocks across various parts of Gaza, resulting in significant loss of life and injuries.
Children and women comprised a significant portion of the casualties, prompting outrage and grief among families and communities.
As tensions continue to rise, stakeholders including the US and the United Nations are calling for a de-escalation of violence and a renewed commitment to peace talks, though challenges remain.
