Multiple people are reported to be injured following an explosion and fire at a nursing home in Bristol, Pennsylvania, officials say.

Emergency crews were called to the Silver Lake Nursing Home at about 14:00 local time. Firefighters believe some people may still be trapped inside the building.

An emergency management official reported that the fire remains active and part of the structure has collapsed. The exact number of injuries is still unknown, and the cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Images posted on social media show a partially collapsed building with massive flames billowing out of it.

Local utility provider PECO responded to reports of a gas odor at the facility earlier that day. While on site, the explosion occurred, leading to a shut-off of natural gas and electric service to the building.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his condolences for the affected community and is in contact with local officials and first responders. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has urged people to avoid the area as the emergency unfolds.

This story is still developing, with updates expected as further information becomes available.
