Egyptian police have detained several people who staged fake court scenes on social media to defraud citizens, authorities say.

Police in Egypt have arrested a gang that forged court appearances and impersonated judges in order to trick citizens into handing over money. The suspects, one unemployed man and one student, staged a series of fake courtroom videos and claimed they could secure housing from government agencies. They were arrested after a complaint by a victim who said he was deceived by a person posing as a judge. Law enforcement seized forged identity cards, a judicial sash and a firearm from the main suspect. The case threatens to undermine public trust in the judicial system and serves as a warning against online identity fraud.

Investigators also say that the suspects worked with other individuals to film and publish the fake court images and videos, while claiming on social media that they were judges.

Police seized a firearm, a judicial sash and identity documents bearing fake judicial titles from the main suspect. The case is being examined by a fast‑track criminal court.

Several court employees were also questioned, as the suspects had convinced them that they were employees of judiciary authorities.
