Devastating Drone Strike Claims Over 60 Lives in Sudan's El-Fasher

A recent drone strike in El-Fasher, Sudan, has resulted in the deaths of at least 60 individuals amidst ongoing conflict and a humanitarian crisis, according to local resistance groups.

At least 60 people have been reported killed following a drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a displacement shelter in El-Fasher, a city under siege for 17 months. Witness accounts detail harrowing scenes of death and destruction, with innocent civilians, including children and the elderly, among the casualties. The ongoing conflict has exacerbated a dire humanitarian situation in the region, where hunger and disease are rampant.

At least 60 people have been killed in a drone strike at a displacement shelter in El-Fasher, a besieged Sudanese city on the brink of collapse. The resistance committee for El-Fasher, made up of local citizens and activists, reported that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the Dar al-Arqam camp, located within a university, with two drone strikes and eight artillery shells.

Children, women and the elderly were killed in cold blood, and many were completely burned, said a statement from the group, as quoted by AFP news agency. The RSF has surrounded El-Fasher for the last 17 months, attempting to seize control of the Sudanese army's last stronghold in the Darfur region.

The resistance group described the situation in El-Fasher as having gone beyond disaster and genocide. Hunger and disease have spread across the city as residents face constant bombardment and dwindling food and medical supplies.

Sudan has been ravaged by conflict since 2023, following a fallout between top commanders of the RSF and Sudanese army, leading to a brutal power struggle and one of the worst humanitarian crises in the region.
