A Russian missile strike on a weapons depot near Kyiv on Tuesday caused a massive explosion that killed 37 people and prompted the evacuation of almost 400 residents from the surrounding area.

Video footage shared online shows the initial blast and rising plumes of smoke in the sky above the city. The depot, which stored military armaments, was located within a residential zone, heightening the risk to civilians.

Ukrainian authorities said the strike was a "terrible negligence" on the part of those who stored explosives next to people. President Volodymyr Zelensky called for an immediate investigation into the incident.

According to correspondent Dan Johnson, the blast has caused significant panic among residents in the affected neighbourhoods, prompting mandatory evacuation orders and emergency services to clear the area.
