Authorities revealed the crash, whose cause remains unknown, involved tourists in the popular destination of South Sinai, including a group of Jordanian nationals. The incident adds to Egypt’s record of nearly 6,000 road deaths in 2025, underscoring the need for tighter safety measures and better vehicle inspections. Patients are being treated in three hospitals along the route.

At least 22 people lost their lives when a bus crashed on the road between Dahab and Nuweiba in South Sinai on a Wednesday morning, the Egyptian health ministry said.

Another 28 passengers were injured. The exact number of people on board was not confirmed, but reports suggest a mix of local and foreign tourists, including up to ten Jordanian nationals among those killed.

The crash is being investigated, with the cause still unknown. The incident came at a time when the region—famous for its clear waters and thriving dive sites—is a favorite destination for travelers from around the globe.

In a statement, the ministry said injured passengers were transported to three different hospitals. This accident adds to a troubling trend; Egypt recorded nearly 6,000 road‑traffic fatalities in 2025, with reckless driving and poorly maintained roads cited as major factors.

Earlier last month, an unrelated collision of two lorries in the Ismailia governorate had already claimed 18 lives and injured 30 people. Authorities have urged for stricter enforcement of road safety laws and better vehicle inspections to prevent similar tragedies.
