PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police responded to an active shooting Saturday on campus at Brown University in Providence, according to the school’s alert system. Officials initially said a suspect was in custody, but clarified that was not true as police were still searching for a suspect or suspects. The incident occurred near the Barus & Holley building, home to the School of Engineering and Physics Department, featuring 117 laboratories and multiple offices. Kristy DosReis, the chief public information officer, stated that officials were gathering information from the active scene. Brown University, a private Ivy League institution with approximately 7,300 undergraduates and over 3,000 graduate students, faced this alarming event during the crucial time of final examinations.
