More than 50 others reported injuries, with Ukrainian officials noting that the aftermath could see the death toll increase, particularly after a residential building partially collapsed due to a direct hit.
Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, described the widespread damage, which affected over two dozen locations throughout the city. Among the worst-hit areas were the Sviatoshynsky and Solomyansky districts, where one casualty was reported, alongside multiple injuries.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko mentioned the catastrophic impact on infrastructure, highlighting an attack on a high-rise building that entirely destroyed an entrance, necessitating rescue operations to clear rubble. Additionally, the blast from the attack damaged a children's hospital ward in the Shevchenkivsky district, illustrating the indiscriminate nature of such violence.
In a solemn reflection on the calamity, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, characterized the morning as truly horrific, mentioning that ongoing rescue efforts were still trying to find individuals trapped under debris. Sybiha also urged a renewed commitment to sanctioning Moscow, pointing to what he termed "patience" on the part of US President Donald Trump toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Just earlier this month, Trump had called for a 50-day ultimatum for a ceasefire, but during his recent UK visit, he amended that timeline to a much tighter window of "ten or 12 days" for the Kremlin to pursue peace negotiations, voicing frustration over the disconnect between Putin's statements and military actions.
