**Tragic Avalanche Claims Lives in Uttarakhand, Search Ongoing**

A devastating avalanche in Uttarakhand, northern India, has led to the death of at least four individuals, with several others reported missing. The calamity unfolded when the avalanche swept over road construction workers in the village of Mana, adjacent to the Tibetan border, on Friday.

Rescue operations are currently in full swing, with officials reporting that around 50 individuals who were buried under the snow and rubble have been successfully rescued. Tragically, four of these individuals succumbed to their injuries, as announced by the Indian Army. Helicopters have been deployed to locate five missing persons still unaccounted for in this rugged Himalayan region.

Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured that rescue teams are "continuously engaged in relief efforts" after the avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation camp. He emphasized the government's commitment to providing all necessary assistance in this challenging situation.

Footage released by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police shows rescuers bravely carrying individuals on stretchers through deep snow, even as additional snowfall continues to impact the area.

Local resident Gaurav Kunwar, a former village council member, described Mana as a "migratory area" devoid of permanent inhabitants, where only laborers working on border roads reside during winter months. He also highlighted that the region had been experiencing persistent rainfall for two days leading up to the avalanche.

The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and snowfall in northern India, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir, with orange alerts activated for several districts. The situation remains precarious as authorities continue their life-saving operations.
