# Air India Temporarily Reduces International Flights After Tragic Crash

After the tragic incident that claimed the lives of over 270 individuals last week, Air India is lowering its international flight capacity amid growing passenger concerns and operational challenges.

Air India, the flagship airline of India, has announced a significant reduction in its international flights following the horrifying crash of one of its aircraft, which occurred on June 12, resulting in the loss of at least 270 lives. In a statement released on X, the airline revealed it would decrease its international flight operations by 15% through mid-July, particularly affecting wide-body planes typically utilized for long-haul journeys.

This move comes on the heels of directives from Indian aviation authorities for Air India to enhance its operational standards. The airline has faced a barrage of passenger complaints, citing issues ranging from flight cancellations to malfunctioning cabin devices and a lack of timely information. Compounding the problem, the ongoing conflict in Iran has led to longer flight routes, further straining the airline's operations.

On June 19, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India's primary aviation regulatory body, conducted inspections of Air India's fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Although no significant safety concerns were identified, maintenance-related issues were detected, leading to a recommendation for the airline to enhance communication and internal coordination regarding flight defects.

Air India operates 1,000 flights daily across its fleet of 128 planes, with many international routes, including popular direct flights from Delhi to New York.
