A missile launched from Yemen struck near Ben-Gurion Airport in central Israel on Sunday, resulting in two reported injuries and the temporary suspension of flights. The Israeli military confirmed engagements were made to intercept the missile, with an impact site identified in the vicinity of the airport terminal.

Israel’s emergency medical service reported that in addition to the two individuals directly injured from the blast, a third person sustained injuries while seeking shelter from the attack. Social media footage captured significant plumes of smoke emanating from the area, alongside alarmed airport-goers rushing to safety.

Prior to the strike, the Israel Airport Authority had anticipated a busy day, with 422 flights scheduled. In the aftermath of the missile attack, operations were put on hold in alignment with safety protocols, although officials aimed for a prompt resumption of services.

The missile attack was attributed to the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, who have stepped up their missile operations against Israel following the cessation of a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Gaza since mid-March. While many missiles have been intercepted by Israeli defense systems, fragments have landed across various areas in Israel, raising concerns about regional security and stability.
