Another Arrest in Arson Case Linked to U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer
A second suspect, Romanian national Stanislav Carpiuc, faces charges related to arson attacks on properties associated with Prime Minister Starmer.
A second individual has been charged in connection with a series of arson attacks that targeted properties associated with the U.K. Prime Minister, Keir Starmer. According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, Stanislav Carpiuc, a 26-year-old Romanian national, has been charged with conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life.
The charges stem from three separate incidents involving fires that broke out earlier this month. The first fire occurred on May 12 outside Mr. Starmer's former residence in Kentish Town, North London, where he lived with his family until relocating to the official prime ministerial residence in Downing Street following his recent election victory. The second incident ignited on May 11 in a residential building located in Islington, while the third occurred on May 8, when a car associated with Mr. Starmer caught fire in Kentish Town.
Authorities noted that Mr. Starmer previously resided in the Islington property during the 1990s and owned the targeted car, which had since been sold to a neighbor. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in any of the fires; however, the doorway of the Kentish Town house, which is currently being rented out, suffered damage.
Due to the connections to a prominent public figure, counterterrorism police have taken the lead in the ongoing investigation. Mr. Carpiuc is accused of conspiring with another suspect, Roman Lavrynovych, a 21-year-old Ukrainian man who also faces charges and appeared in court last week. During that hearing, the prosecuting attorney emphasized that both properties and the burnt vehicle were linked to Prime Minister Starmer, but the specific motives behind the incidents have yet to be explained.
Carpiuc was detained at London Luton Airport by counter-terrorism officers and is expected to attend a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court in the near future. This story is developing, and further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
