Prince Harry Faces Accusations of Bullying from Charity Co-Founder
Sophie Chandauka claims Harry's resignation was an attempt to sabotage the charity Sentebale after failed attempts to remove her.
An escalating conflict between Prince Harry and Sophie Chandauka, the chair of the charity Sentebale, reached new heights on Sunday when Chandauka accused the prince of bullying and harassment to push her out of her role. She alleged that Harry's recent resignation was a calculated move aimed at damaging the charity after he failed in his efforts to have her removed as chair of its board of trustees.
In an interview with Sky News, Chandauka reflected on the impact of Harry's resignation on her personally and on the wider organization, which supports over 540 individuals and their families. “That is an example of harassment and bullying at scale,” she stated.
Responding to the claims, a spokesperson for Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, chose not to comment on the allegations made during the broadcast segment of "Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips." Harry co-founded Sentebale in 2006 in memory of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, with a mission to assist young victims of the H.I.V. pandemic in Lesotho. The charity has since expanded to Botswana, tackling issues such as gender-based violence, substance abuse, and the effects of climate change.
Harry, the Duke of Sussex, announced his resignation—alongside Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, his co-founder—in a statement on Wednesday, citing an irreparable rupture in the relationship between the board and Chandauka. Earlier that week, five of the nine board members had already resigned, indicating deepening discord within the organization.
