Peruvian Woman Arrested for Allegedly Smuggling Drugs in Bali
Authorities take swift action against suspected drug smuggling in high-stakes case.
A 42-year-old woman from Peru, identified only by her initials N.S., has been arrested in Bali for allegedly trying to smuggle a staggering $70,000 worth of drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy, concealed in her underwear and a sex toy. The incident unfolded when customs officials observed her suspicious behavior, prompting an investigation.
According to Radiant, the director of Bali's narcotics unit, the seized drugs were found in multiple hidden locations: six plastic packets wrapped in duct tape inside a green bra, three more packages concealed in black underwear, and a sex toy containing an additional quantity of drugs that had been inserted into her body. In total, authorities reported the recovery of 1.4 kg (approximately 3.1 lbs) of cocaine and 43 ecstasy tablets.
Reportedly, the woman had been lured into the drug trade, claiming she was promised $19,000 by an individual she met on the dark web for smuggling the drugs. After flying from Barcelona with a layover in Doha, she arrived at Bali’s international airport on August 12, where she was quickly apprehended.
Under Indonesia’s strict drug laws, N.S. faces severe consequences, including the possibility of the death penalty, a punishment that the country has temporarily paused since 2017. Just last month, three British nationals narrowly escaped a similar fate after being convicted of drug offenses involving cleverly disguised cocaine intended for trafficking in Indonesia.
