Pakistan Warns of Imminent Indian Military Action Amid Rising Kashmir Tensions

Pakistan suggests India is poised for a military strike in response to the recent tourist attack in Kashmir, while both nations maintain historical claims to the disputed region.

Pakistan's information minister has raised alarms over what he claims is "credible intelligence" indicating that India plans to launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours. Attaullah Tarar's assertion follows India's accusations of Pakistan's involvement in an attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir last week—an incident that Islamad rejects.

Tarar condemned Indian intentions, labeling the accusations a "false pretext" for militaristic action, and promised a decisive response should India attempt any aggressive maneuvers. As tensions flare, both nations have engaged in trading small-arms fire across their border, echoing previous conflicts triggered by similar incidents.

The Pahalgam attack is acknowledged as the most severe on civilians in the region in twenty years. The uncertainty looms large regarding India's next steps, especially since it has previously resorted to military action following militant attacks in 2019 and 2016.

In the wake of the assault, Indian authorities have conducted extensive searches in Kashmir and detained over 1,500 individuals for questioning, with intelligence suggesting that at least ten houses connected to alleged militants have been demolished. The plight in Kashmir has been exacerbated by a long-standing armed insurgency against Indian governance since 1989, which has seen frequent violence targeting both security forces and civilians.

While authorities have hinted at potential suspect affiliations—including links to the Resistance Front and Lashkar-e-Taiba—there remains ambiguity surrounding the identities of the assailants. A few survivors suggested the gunmen specifically targeted Hindu men, igniting national outrage in India.
