The British national who miraculously survived last week's catastrophic Air India plane crash has emotionally honored his brother Ajay at a funeral in Diu, Western India. Vishwashkumar Ramesh, who was the only survivor on the ill-fated flight, carried his brother's coffin in a poignant tribute to the lives lost in the tragedy.
With injuries and bandages visible on his arms and face, Ramesh, 40, joined family and friends in mourning during the ceremony, which drew a sizable crowd despite the heavy rain. His brother Ajay was among the 270 passengers who tragically did not survive when the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed moments after taking off from Ahmedabad.
Witnesses reported the heart-wrenching scene as Ramesh's mother walked alongside the coffin, adorned in a blue sari. The crash also claimed the lives of 14 other townsfolk, intensifying the community's sorrow. Rescuers recounted how Ramesh, upon escaping the flames, repeatedly attempted to return to the aircraft to search for his brother, determined to find him even amid chaos.
A recently surfaced video reveals Ramesh's unbelievable escape as he navigates through thick smoke, guided to safety by Satinder Singh Sandhu, an ambulance supervisor who was first on the scene. Sandhu later expressed disbelief upon learning that Ramesh was the sole survivor, recalling the urgency of the situation as his team responded to what they suspected was a gas explosion.
In an interview, Ramesh recounted his desperate search for Ajay after emerging from the wreckage. “In that moment, I thought I might perish too, but survival was a reality I struggled to grasp,” he stated.
While investigations continue into the crash's cause, authorities are working to analyze the black boxes recovered from the wreckage in hopes of understanding the fateful incident that changed many lives forever.
