Former US President Joe Biden recently underwent skin cancer surgery, his spokeswoman announced. The procedure, known as Mohs surgery, involves cutting away skin until no evidence of cancer remains.

The 82-year-old was seen with a wound on the right side of his head in the days leading up to the surgery. This is not the first instance of skin cancer for Biden; in 2023, he had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest during a routine health screening.

In May, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. Biden has been vocal about the impact of cancer, stating, Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. He has previously undergone treatment for several non-melanoma skin cancers before his presidency.

Since leaving the White House in January, Biden has made fewer public appearances. The Bidens have long advocated for cancer awareness, propelled by the loss of their son Beau, who died from brain cancer in 2015.
