Casualties Rise in Renewed Israeli Strikes on Gaza Amid Ongoing Cease-Fire in Lebanon
An Israeli military offensive in Gaza has left dozens dead, while a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah continues to hold.
Israeli forces have escalated their military campaign in Gaza, conducting airstrikes that have led to the deaths of dozens of individuals, according to reports from emergency rescue entities in the region. The strikes are a part of a continuous Israeli offensive aimed at quelling what they describe as a resurgence of Hamas activity.
In Beit Lahia, a town located in northern Gaza, emergency responders from the Palestinian Civil Defense reported that more than 75 individuals lost their lives due to the airstrikes. However, access to the area has been severely restricted due to an Israeli blockade, making rescue operations almost impossible. The Civil Defense agency stressed that they could not differentiate between civilians and militants in their casualty count, yet they highlighted the tragic loss of entire families during the strikes.
“Entire families were wiped out in northern Gaza, and we currently have no information about them,” the Civil Defense stated in a report released late Friday. Rescue efforts have been stalled for nearly two months in the northern parts of Gaza, resulting in countless survivors trapped beneath debris without essential aid.
Additionally, communication lines—including internet and phone connectivity—have become increasingly unreliable in the region, complicating the ability of families to gain accurate information regarding their missing loved ones as well as hampering the activities of emergency service volunteers.
Despite these reports, the Israeli military pushed back against claims concerning the airstrikes identified in Beit Lahia, labeling them as "false Hamas propaganda." They reaffirmed their ongoing military engagement by continuing what they termed their "counterterrorism activity" within Gaza, emphasizing adherence to "precise and credible intelligence” regarding their operations against Hamas, which they maintain does not target civilians but focuses on combatants.
While hostilities in Gaza rage on, an uneasy cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah appears to be holding firm in Lebanon, marking a stark contrast in the dynamics between the two fronts.
