Usyk Challenges Trump to Experience Ukraine's Reality
Oleksandr Usyk offers US President Donald Trump a chance to live in his home for a week amid ongoing war in Ukraine.
Unified heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk has made a bold offer to US President Donald Trump, inviting him to live in his house for one week to experience the realities of the ongoing war in Ukraine. In the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion that began in 2022, Trump had previously asserted he could resolve the conflict “within 24 hours” if re-elected, but has since shifted blame to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for escalating tensions.
“I advise American President Donald Trump to come to Ukraine and live in my house for one week,” Usyk stated in an interview with BBC Sport. “Only one week. I will give him my house. Live in Ukraine and witness the bombings and air raids that occur every night. It’s unbearable.”
Usyk has been an advocate for peace since the war erupted, dedicating his championship victory over Anthony Joshua in 2022 to the resilience of the Ukrainian people. Following a tense exchange between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office, which led to Zelensky exiting the White House, Usyk questioned if the former president would reevaluate his stance on the war. "I don’t know if he will understand, but Ukrainian lives are at stake—there are children, women, the elderly—all suffering."
Having fought for his country and raised awareness about the war, Usyk stands alongside retired boxing champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko in promoting Ukraine's peace efforts. The boxer’s upcoming rematch against Britain's Daniel Dubois on July 19 at Wembley Stadium presents another opportunity for him to shine both in the ring and in humanitarian advocacy, as he aims for undisputed heavyweight champion status.
