Turbulence Sends Eight to Hospital on Ryanair Flight Diversion
Severe turbulence forced a Ryanair flight from Berlin to Milan to divert to Memmingen Airport, injuring several passengers.
A Ryanair flight bound for Milan from Berlin had to make an unplanned landing at Memmingen Airport in southern Germany due to severe turbulence linked to adverse weather conditions. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, leaving eight passengers injured, among them a two-year-old child and a woman who suffered a head injury, as reported by Bavarian police.
Three of the injured required hospital treatment, while others received medical assistance at the site. In response to the situation, Ryanair issued an apology to those affected, assuring that the flight's captain had promptly requested medical aid, and the aircraft landed safely at 20:44 local time (18:44 GMT).
Local authorities indicated that landing at Munich Airport was not feasible due to inclement weather, prompting the diversion to Memmingen where the plane arrived safely without further complications. Given the situation, the Southern Bavaria Aviation Authority denied permission for an onward flight that evening.
In light of the developments, Ryanair arranged alternative transport for the affected passengers to Milan that night and also organized a replacement flight for Thursday morning. A total of 179 passengers and six crew members were on board, with those injured ranging from ages two to 59. As a precautionary measure, all passengers were checked for injuries following the turbulence incident.
