A man is in police custody after a suspected knife attack leaves three injured in north Dublin’s Stoneybatter.
A man has been arrested following a knife attack that left three men injured in Stoneybatter, a neighborhood in north Dublin. Irish authorities were called to the scene on Sunday afternoon to respond to what Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan referred to as a "random attack."
Two of the injured men sustained serious but non-life-threatening wounds, while the third suffered a less severe injury. All three have been transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Reports indicate the injuries were consistent with "slashing type injuries."
The apprehended suspect is currently in custody at a police station. Increased police presence has been noted in the area as emergency services handled the situation, which spanned multiple streets within the Arbour Hill vicinity of Stoneybatter.
Local political figure Mary Lou McDonald, president of Sinn Féin and area TD, expressed her concern on social media, stating, "My thoughts are with those injured and their families. The community is in a state of shock." She also praised the Gardaí and emergency responders for their swift action during the incident.
O'Callaghan, while actively receiving updates, confirmed that police are methodically investigating all circumstances surrounding the event. Several scenes remain cordoned off, although authorities assured the public there is no ongoing threat.
Witnesses have been encouraged to come forward, particularly anyone who can share video footage from the time of the incident, which occurred between 14:30 and 15:30 GMT. Local Fine Gael councillor Ray McAdam noted that residents were advised to lock their doors and remain indoors, emphasizing the prevailing sentiments of shock and concern within the community. He also conveyed hope that the injured men would recover quickly, emphasizing the reassurance provided by the prompt police response.
