**Saudi Trans Woman’s Suicide Note: Allegations Against Lawyer Surface in Investigation**

A prominent Saudi trans woman's tragic death raises questions about a lawyer's conduct in her return to the kingdom.

The investigation reveals connections to a US embassy lawyer tied to controversial cases involving Saudi students.

Eden Knight, a Saudi transgender woman, took her own life in March 2023 after returning to her home country, following advice from a lawyer linked to the Saudi Arabian embassy. The note she left on social media expressed despair and surprise at the lawyer's alleged betrayal, suggesting he had worked with her family to undermine her transition and return her to an abusive environment. The BBC World Service has revealed that this lawyer, Bader Alomair, had facilitated the return of several Saudi students from the U.S. under circumstances that sparked controversy, including connections to serious criminal cases.

Eden Knight hailed from a well-respected family and had been studying in Virginia, actively transitioning and embracing her identity. After her visa expired, she sought asylum, hoping to build a new life. However, as detailed in messages shared with friends, her connection with Alomair shifted from supportive to oppressive, leading to an alarming loss of agency over her personal choices. Eden had begun to distrust him, fearing she was being coerced into reverting to her former identity.

Despite her private efforts to continue her transition, Eden faced intense familial pressure upon her return to Saudi Arabia, including taking away her hormone therapies and enduring verbal abuse from relatives. Aware of her plight, her friends witnessed a decline in Eden's hope for a future, and she ultimately saw no way out, resulting in her tragic decision to end her life.

Investigation into Alomair's involvement has drawn parallels to past incidents where Saudi students faced serious legal accusations in the U.S. and were reportedly assisted in returning to Saudi Arabia without facing judicial consequences. Questions linger about Alomair's dual roles in supporting students while also aiding questionable repatriation efforts. Despite numerous outreach attempts, Alomair and other involved parties have remained silent regarding the accusations and the ramifications of Eden's distressing predicament.

With the continued dialogue around the safety and rights of transgender individuals in conservative societies, Eden Knight’s story serves as a chilling reminder of the struggles faced by many who seek acceptance and recognition. As advocates urge for government accountability, stories like Eden's demand more attention to the intersection of legal, personal, and cultural factors impacting marginalized communities.
