Manhunt Launched Following Shooting Outside Brussels Metro Station

Two masked gunmen fired rifles outside the Clemenceau metro station, triggering an extensive police investigation in the Belgian capital.

No injuries occurred during the incident, but authorities have closed two metro stations and recovered numerous bullet casings as they search for suspects.

A significant manhunt is currently taking place in Brussels after an alarming shooting incident outside a metro station early on Wednesday morning. The shooting unfolded near the Clemenceau metro station in the Anderlecht district, drawing a swift response from law enforcement, as confirmed by the public prosecutor’s office. Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries resulting from the gunfire.

In a shocking display caught on security footage, two masked individuals armed with what appeared to be Kalashnikov rifles fired shots indiscriminately while meandering along the sidewalk. During this reckless act, they notably disregarded the presence of numerous individuals nearby. Reports suggest that the gunmen fled into the station amidst the chaos.

Willemien Baert, a spokesperson from the public prosecutor’s office, stated that initial investigations suggest the attack lacks any apparent “terrorist motive.” Forensic teams have since recovered multiple bullet casings from the scene, serving as crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.

In response to the shooting, the Clemenceau and Gare du Midi metro stations were closed off for approximately four hours to allow law enforcement to conduct a thorough examination. The public transit authorities communicated these closure measures as part of their commitment to passenger safety.

The incident has raised concerns among residents and commuters alike, highlighting a potential shift in urban security dynamics. Authorities continue their search for the shooters, seeking leads and reassurance for the public.
