Just hours after formally becoming the President of South Korea, Lee Jae-myung delivered a heartfelt address pledging to "unite the people" during his inauguration ceremony on Wednesday. As he steps into office, Lee inherits a nation still reeling from significant schisms exacerbated by former President Yoon Suk Yeol's controversial martial law announcement last December.
"I will begin my presidency by focusing on revitalizing the economy and healing the populace," stated Lee at the National Assembly, emphasizing his aim to be a leader for all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations in the recent election. Running under the liberal Democratic Party, he garnered almost 50% of the public vote, underscoring substantial support.
