Pope Urges Protection of Human Dignity Amid AI Advancements

Speaking at a Mass for Catholic social media influencers, Pope Leo XIV highlighted the need for technology to uplift humanity rather than detract from its dignity, marking his ongoing commitment to addressing the ethical implications of AI.

In a pivotal address, Pope Leo XIV delivered a powerful message about the imperative of protecting human dignity as society navigates the complexities introduced by artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking at the Vatican's first Mass for Catholic social media influencers, the Pope stressed that "nothing that comes from man and his creativity should be used to undermine the dignity of others," urging the faithful to harness technology for the "benefit of all humanity."

His remarks took place during the Jubilee of Youth, a significant gathering for young believers happening once every 25 years, underscoring the relevance of the theme in a modern context. Pope Leo XIV has been consistently vocal about AI and its implications since ascending to the papacy in May.

In his address, the Pope articulated a call to collective responsibility: "We have a duty to work together to develop a way of thinking, to develop a language, of our time, that gives voice to love." He encouraged social media influencers to actively engage with those in distress, using their platforms to convey messages of hope and compassion.

"Be agents of communion," he challenged them, advocating for a shift away from division, individualism, and egocentrism.

Pope Leo XIV's inaugural address, delivered earlier in May, reinforced the idea that the church's role is crucial in defending human dignity against the backdrop of rapid technological progress.
